Geospatial is proud to announce its successful commencement of strategic licensing agreements of Smart Probe Pipeline Mapping Technology with partners around the United States. This initiative has started with Geospatial’s first strategic partner, George F. Young. GFY is a surveying and engineering company located in Florida and will now add XYZ pipeline mapping to its list of capabilities.

Licensing partners to utilize Smart Probe mapping has expanded Geospatial’s ability to provide economical and effective pipeline mapping across the country in a variety of markets. In addition, Geospatial is expanding further by extending its line of Smart Probes to include a model that includes a digital camera and video system. This is still in the prototype phase but is expected to be available to Geospatial’s partners and clients in the near future.

Sensors

In the midst of a technology era, pipeline infrastructure is struggling to keep its head above water. There is a race to gather and maintain accurate information about the location and condition of subsurface assets in order to efficiently rehabilitate and expand the outdated system that we have far outgrown. A key ingredient in this process is the utilization of sensors and markers that can indicate the pipeline’s size, product it carries, when it was installed, the location of valves, etc. At Geospatial, we see this as a prime opportunity to tie in accurate 3D mapping with sensors and markers to establish a completely interactive system and knowledge base. When a pipeline is mapped in 3D and markers are utilized, this creates an incredibly streamlined process for locating and maintenance.

GIS Progress

We at Geospatial are making strong progress and proven results towards improving Geographic Information Systems for municipal, government, and facility management use. Our development of GIS as a Software-as-a-Service model is revolutionizing the industry which is almost exclusively “boxed software.” Our vision of complete underground maps offered entirely in a web-based environment is taking shape through GeoUnderground.

Additionally, our data acquisition technologies allow for the integration of accurate XYZ pipeline information to be integrated into these and other GIS. Geospatial Featured in Two Magazines

Geospatial recently added Ron Peterson to the team as Central Operations Manager based in Kansas City (Press Release). His experience as the vice-president of TWS Services and the Executive Director of the National Utility Locating Contractor’s Association (www.nulca.org) has helped Geospatial grow both in experience and geographically. Ron is featured in the “Hero” segment of Damage Prevention magazine and wrote a column for Trenchless Technology magazine this month emphasizing how utility mapping can impact damage prevention to help save money and create safer job sites. Geospatial utilizes proprietary and non-proprietary technologies to gather positional data on underground infrastructure like water and sewer pipes, electrical conduits, telecom and fiber conduits and gas and oil pipelines. All gathered data is transferred to a robust web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) database which we call GeoUnderground where it can be integrated with all types of additional geo-referenced data. We then make this information available to our clients in whatever format that they like. Geospatial’s Field Services Model

Our headquarters is in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Like any young technology company, many of the projects completed during our early years were smaller projects to introduce the technologies to new client and to prove the overall value of our pipeline mapping services. Although most initial projects were small, our client base is made up of world class companies such as Comcast, Qwest Communications, Sunoco, the US Department of Defense, the University of Mississippi, El Paso Electric along with numerous municipalities.

Geospatial’s Facilities Management Model

As more and more pipeline operators and owners discover the value of accurate 3D pipeline mapping, Geospatial believes that the demand for the Company’s technologies will continue to grow and projects will evolve to the point that we will be mapping the underground infrastructure of large facilities such as utility right of ways, military facilities and complete municipalities.

Private Public Partnerships (PPPs)

While Geospatial has not as yet successfully negotiated a Private Public Partnership arrangement to provide both financing (through a financial partner) and data acquisition services (utilizing our technologies) to map the entire underground infrastructure of a city, university or Federal facility, we feel that it is only a matter of time before this becomes a viable part of our business. Strategic Alliances

As our business model focuses on data management and the continuing revenue to be generated from that data, we plan to heavily rely on global strategic alliances and channel sales partners to assist us in the actual gathering of the field data. We are working to align ourselves with strong partners in each vertical market niche to accelerate market penetration and sales.

Integration with Pipeline Condition Assessment Technologies

Our ability to geo-reference and add 3D coordinates to most types of pipeline condition technologies such as pipeline video technologies, leak detection technologies and corrosion evaluation technologies positions Geospatial as the ideal strategic partner to the companies utilizing these technologies. As we geo-reference this condition assessment data it can be easily delivered to their clients via Geospatial’s GeoUnderground web-based GIS portal.

Geospatial’s Interactive Infrastructure Initiative

There are several global manufacturers and Federal contractors that have invested substantial resources in the development of various interactive sensors to accumulate and distribute important data about the position and condition of various types of underground pipelines and conduits. In the electrical distribution industry these technologies are collectively referred to as the Smart Grid. Specialized sensors are being designed and manufactured to collect data and help manage all types of buried infrastructure. Geospatial believes that this industry presents a substantial opportunity for our pipeline mapping technologies and our GeoUnderground web-based GIS portal. We feel that the prerequisite required to install these sensors and to manage the resultant data is to develop an accurate and complete 3D map of the entire pipeline system or the complete facility or pipeline right of way.

US Department of Homeland Security’s Critical Infrastructure Program

While we’re not exactly sure how Geospatial’s pipeline mapping technologies and our web-based GeoUnderground GIS portal fit into the US Department of Homeland Security’s Critical Infrastructure Program, we can’t help but believe that we offer a unique capability to the Department and other DoD agencies and facilities. http://www.dhs.gov. As you may know, Tom Ridge, the nation’s first Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security is an active Director of Geospatial.
